Junk in my trunk

Hi folks. Did you think I fell off of the planet? Oh my goodness, what a week since I last wrote. Where do I start? Last week ended with a conference held at our church, called Kairos 2. Basically the conference is designed to clear out the 'junk in my trunk', or in other words the stuff that is in the way of receiving the truth about who I am in Christ. There are many things like old wounds, lies I believe about myself and others, anger, bitterness, resentment, a false view of God, men and/or women that could potentially hang me/us up. It's like emotional heart surgery. And it's amazing. If Jesus is who he says he is in Luke 4:18 and Isaiah 61, and HE IS, then He has come to set us free from anything and everything that keeps us bound up! Hallelujah. So yeah, there was some junk in my trunk and the Lord graciously took it, bore it on the cross and scattered it as far as the East is from the West. Sigh. Breathe. Rejoice.

The second big thing that happened is all over FB, proud Grandma that I am, and that is the birth of our 3rd grandchild. I have had the privilege of taking care of the other 2 while mommy and daddy were busy as the hospital. I am finally home and gearing up for a somewhat normal week, despite a severe head cold and cough. (And I haven't had the chance to hold the little one because I am germy and don't want to get her sick, can't wait to feel better).

So, it's March 5th and I haven't even announced the verse of the month yet. To tell you the truth, I haven't had the time or energy to think much about it until today. As I was reading Jesus Calling this am, the entry resonated with me. The verse was Romans 8:28, one that we are all familiar with, 'And we know that God causes all things to work together for good, to those who love Him and are called according to His purpose'. The challenge for me is #1, remembering and declaring it(!) in all circumstances throughout my day, big and little. Sometimes I think we forget the little, but it's those little daily miracles that show us how intimate He wants to be with us that are the life-changers and faith-builders! #2 is to give thanks in all of the circumstances that He is working together for good. I know that's another verse, 1 Thes. 5:18, 'in everything give thanks for this is the will of Christ Jesus concerning you', but if we couple that with Romans 8:28, I really think it could be life changing.

The challenge is this. Think about the thing, the one thing that just drives you crazy, that you can't get a handle on, or that you can't wish away. Or maybe there's more than one in your life. I know there's at least one in my life. This month, I am going to focus on being grateful, giving thanks IN my circumstance, regardless of how much I may dislike it. And along with giving thanks, I am going to exercise my faith muscles by trusting that there is GOOD in the circumstance, and the Lord is so able, ready and willing to mine the good out of the bad! I picture a miner with his light strapped to his forehead, digging around in the dark, looking for sparkling, precious metals! I also notice, that he has a pick axe in his hand and that sometimes it just might hurt a little...but the end result is precious, valuable, and beautiful!
